Scholarship

Research Philosophy

Evidence is imperative to sustain, prove or disprove theory and ideas. To quote the words of Aristotle,"It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it." My research is defined by critical investigation towards helping human beings learn through information and its digital mediums. My projects, publications and experiments are conducted relative to a field or problem, but pedagogically rich in delivery.

I advocate non-traditional research mediums in publishing and presentation. Inventive channels of collaboration, as well cooperation, are strong philosophies in my research work. Through peer review, I seek to distill objectivist reasoning in deductions or deliverables of work. I encourage cross-disciplinary, interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research, all through networks of funding, resources and common professional interests.

Teaching Philosophy

It was Albert Einstein who said, "I do not teach anyone, I only provide the environment in which they can learn." A profound thought by Einstein speaking in a quotidian mores about the demanding commitment of teaching. I think his statement speaks voluminously to the emerging experiences of educators everywhere, every day. In the information economy, students now frequently acquire skill in virtual and information rich learning communities, often designed by teachers that facilitate learned subject matter. Understanding information is an education.

When I design curriculum or facilitate pedagogy, I construct and produce learning communities that help learners to intelligibly create, interpret, manage, and remix information. I work with learners to develop literacies in computing and information, resulting in a preparedness to apply solutions both theoretically and practically, in virtually any field or discipline. Nelson Mandela once said, "Education is the most powerful tool in which one can use to change the world." I empower learners to impact our world by understanding information.
